The African National Congress (ANC) in the City of Cape Town says it will table a counter motion of no confidence against Democratic Alliance (DA) Speaker, Dirk Smit during a council meeting.
This as the DA caucus is expected to bring a no confidence motion against Mayor Patricia de Lille.
ANC opposition leader, Xolani Sotashe alleges that Smit has approved illegal decisions, especially when stripping De Lille of her executive powers.
Sotashe says, “We warned them as the ANC not to do this, but rather to propose to the minister of Cogta (Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs) to review the municipal structures act, they did not want to listen to us, the speaker went to seek the legal opinion and he was advised that the decision taken by the council was procedural and unlawful.”
