ANC predicted to win 231 seats in Parliament

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC is expected to win more than 57% of the votes in the 2019 national ballot, giving the ruling party 231 of the available 400 seats in the national legislature. This is down 18 seats from the allocation after the 2014 election.

The prediction has been made by the CSIR after 44.59% of the voting districts have been declared.

The DA is expected to win 84 of the national seats, followed by the EFF, who the CSIR predicts will win 40 seats. In 2014, the EFF had won only 25 seats in Parliament.

The IFP is expected to win 14 seats and the FF PLUS 11.

With more than seven million votes counted, the CSIR says they expect that some 68% of registered voters turned up at the polls on Wednesday, 8 May 2019.

Only 15 of the 48 registered parties are predicted to win seats in the national legislature.
