The African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg has laid fraud charges against former Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor and MMC Sharon Peetz.
Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba fired Peetz as the city’s MMC for Economic Development in August for alleged misconduct. Peetz allegedly falsified a proof of payment to a travel agency after taking her mother on an official trip to Spain.
The ANC in Johannesburg alleges that Mashaba is being selective when in rooting out corruption within the City of Johannesburg.
ANC Johannesburg chief whip Solly Mogase says, “The mayor has not brought any action or made any investigation when she was there and the action happened when she was a councillor. He acts on officials of JMPD, goes and open up a case at a police station. Why this one has been selected differently from others? It’s our surprise. That is why we thought that this man who claims to be a chief buster seems to be selective. When it happens to his own colleague, he seems not to be acting.”
