ANC officials instructed to resolve North West crisis

The African National Congress (ANC) National Working Committee has mandated the party’s national officials to urgently meet with North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo in a bid to resolve the political unrest in that province.

North West has been rocked by widespread, often violent, protests over calls for Mahumapelo to step down.

Leaders of  the Revolutionary Council, which is behind the protests, met with ANC leadership at Luthuli House last week and agreed to give the governing party space to deal with their demands.

Following its ordinary meeting on Wednesday, the NWC recommended that the national officials meet with Mahumapelo to discuss all available constructive options to resolve the on-going impasse in the interest of the people of that province.

Three people have already lost their lives since the protests began, two weeks ago.
