ANC not threatened by first workers’ party

The African National Congress (ANC) says the introduction of a new worker’s party is a sign of a maturing democracy. Secretary General Ace Magashule says this will give political parties a tough time ahead of the 2019 general elections.

On Saturday, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) announced that it has been given a green light to register the first workers’ party, the Socialist Revolutionary Worker’s Party.

Magashule says the ANC is not threatened by the new party.

“We live in a democracy, that’s the only thing I can say. Everybody has a right; a freedom of association, of speech, of whatever. This is what we fought for. Maybe democracy is maturing.” Click below for more on the story:
