South Africans went to the polls on Wednesday and counting of votes is currently underway.

Political Analyst Somadoda Fikeni says this was probably the worst time for the ANC to go into the elections.

Speaking on Morning Live he says this is because all their dirty linen is being exposed in the commissions of inquiry.

Fikeni says the ANC was vulnerable and now that it shows they might survive, it gives them an opportunity to reform and revive the party.

He says the leadership will also need to take decisive steps against those involved in corruption to show it does not tolerate it.

He says the party has showed a decline in votes since 2004 and drastic steps must be taken to revive the party.

The ANC is currently leading in eight provinces.
