The African National Congress (ANC) has lodged a formal complaint to the Electoral Commission over the Democratic Alliance (DA) Billboard in Johannesburg titled “The ANC is killing us“. The billboard, which was put up just outside the Johannesburg CBD, lists the names of all the victims of Marikana, Life Esidimeni and the children that have drowned in pit latrines.
On Thursday the billboard was vandalised by relatives of the Life Esidimeni victims. The billboard has also drawn criticism and caused outrage on social media.
Some of the people, who tweeted, claimed that they are related to the people whose names are on the billboard and they were not told about it.
“We have taken a decision to report the matter with the IEC in line of provisions of the electoral act and the code of conduct of the IEC. What the DA has done is very insensitive and it lacks compassion and it must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” says ANC acting spokesperson Dakota Legoete.
