The Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, had to abandon his public meeting with Alexandra residents on Monday after it was disrupted.
A group of protesters continued singing and refused to cooperate with officials during the meeting at the Malboro community centre, preventing the programme from starting.
Mashaba says the disruption was unfortunate and the residents were not willing to give him an opportunity to speak.
“When this protest happened, the very same day I sent an official…This was a plan by the African National Congress (ANC) to disrupt my IDP session. They’ve been trying for the last three years,” says Mashaba.
