ANC confident of victory in Gauteng

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng says it believes it will win the province outright in the upcoming elections. The party’s head of elections in the province Lebogang Maile briefed the media and provided an update on its election campaign.

The party also opened the ANC Pavilion at the 2019 Rand Show in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.

Although Maile could not immediately provide evidence of the research showing that the party will win with a majority, he was upbeat about the party’s prospects. He, however, refused to answer what will happen if that doesn’t happen, only saying that the ANC doesn’t believe in coalitions as it’s playing to win.

Despite losing the City of Johannesburg and Tshwane in the 2016 Municipal Elections, the party remains confident it will govern Gauteng. Maile says they will soon start sending SMS’s as part of their intensified election campaign.

He says with ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa being the face of the party for the 2019 elections, there has been a growing positive sentiment around the ANC.
