ANC at risk of losing majority in 2019: Mashatile

Reading Time: < 1 minute

African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Chairperson Paul Mashatile says the party could lose its majority in the 2019 elections.

Mashatile says there are potential parties which the ANC could form a coalition government with.

He spoke exclusively to the SABC on how critical the outcomes of the ANC’s elective conference are towards uniting the party.

Meanwhile, the ANC in Gauteng says although it has preferred party presidential candidates, branches have the right to choose who they want to lead the party.

There’s speculation that the province has thrown its weight behind Deputy President Cyril Ramahosa for the governing party’s top post at its elective conference next month.

Mashatile says they had not imposed the next ANC president on the branches.
