Alleged serial rapist nabbed in Western Cape

Western Cape police have arrested an alleged serial rapist in Hermanus in the Overberg.

The 29-year-old suspect was arrested close to the area where a number of rapes have occurred over the last three years.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk says DNA evidence later linked the man to 11 reported cases of rape in the area.

He says: “In most cases the suspect had a balaclava or stocking over his face which made identity of the suspect very difficult.”

“Members of SAPS Hermanus were patrolling when they spotted a suspicious male in the vicinity They arrested the 29 year old male. He was found in possession of a balaclava, a stocking, a knife and a roll of toilet paper. The the suspect was arrested and appeared in Hermanus Court.”

The case was postponed to the 4th of June.
