Allegations of corruption in Secunda to be investigated

Mpumalanga Premier, Refilwe Mtsweni says a forensic investigation will be launched into allegations of corruption and mismanagement of funds in the Govan Mbeki municipality.

She says the current municipal manager will be removed.

Embalenhle residents in Secunda in Mpumalanga went on the rampage this week, setting several building on fire including a shopping mall, a post office and petrol station.

They were protesting over a number of issues including the constant power cuts.

Mtsweni visited the area on Thursday and addressed residents who have been protesting since Sunday.

She says: “The allegations raised do hold water. We will assemble a team of investigators that we will send down to the municipality and then we will take it from there.”
