All systems go for election day: IEC

Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) Spokesperson Kate Bapela says is it all systems go as South Africans cast their votes on Wednesday.

Speaking on Morning Live she says should there be delays in the opening of polling stations, people should not panic.

“Though we have done our utmost best to ensure that all stations open on time, delays are possible.”

“Should this happen, we have officials in all polling stations who will attend to issues arising and make sure that the station opens as soon as possible.”

She also highlighted that the threats of a strike by IEC officials has been averted.

“An agreement with unions has been signed and as such no strike will take place.”

She adds that security around polling stations has been beefed up following threats made to IEC officials.
