Four men arrested in connection with robberies in and around the OR Tambo International Airport are on Wednesday expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, north of Johannesburg.

A fifth suspect appeared in court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

Three weeks ago police arrested seven suspects for the so-called “Airport Follow” robberies, where victims are followed from the airport and then robbed of their belongings.

Police initially arrested seven suspects of which three were questioned and released and four were charged and remanded in custody.

Some of the charges the suspects are facing include armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen property.

Police say the arrest of these suspects are considered to be extremely significant to the efforts of the joint law enforcement effort to decisively deal with the scourge of aggravated robberies not only in and around the airport, but across the country as well.
