The Bushbuckridge Municipality in Mpumalanga has distributed tents to victims of a hailstorm in Mkhuhlu near Hazyview.
The storm which struck the area Saturday, damaged vehicles, and houses, clinics, a public hospital and a library in the area.
Bushbuckridge Executive Mayor Sylvia Xumalo says they would engage the provincial government to seek assistance for the affected residents.
“There are lot of villages which are affected. As I’m speaking now, I’m at Mkhuhlu. The following villages are affected; Mkhuhlu F, Bhukuta, Taiwan, Calcutta, Monomania, Jonela Mkhuhlu in the location. So, they are very much severely affected by this storm. As I’m speaking now, we are busy distributing tents to those severely affected we make sure we give them tents. We give them sponge mattresses so that they can be able to sleep. Most of their materials in house are wet.”
