Exhibitors are optimistic that the 2018 Africa’s Travel Indaba will give them the much-needed exposure to attract investors.
The indaba, which started in Durban on Tuesday, will end on Thursday.
About seven-thousand exhibitors, travel buyers, journalists and tourism industry professionals have converged in Durban to explore Africa’s growing tourism potential.
They say one of the challenges that township tourism is facing is the high crime rate.
Mmasi Mosikatsana from the Basotho Cultural Village in Qwaqwa in the Free State says, “The challenges that we face in our township business is only the perception that people are scared, because of crime. People think there is too much crime in our area.”
Sakhumzi Maqubela from the Sakhumzi Restaurant in the famous Vilakazi Street in Soweto says, “It is very nice and it will give you an experience of your life if you come visit us. But then please you have to use registered tourist guides and registered companies because they know the security measures and they know how to handle tourist.”
