The South African under-19 cricket team has suffered an embarrassing defeat in the opening match of the International Cricket Council under-19 Cricket World Cup in Kimberley.
Afghanistan beat the young Proteas by seven wickets. The hosts, who won the toss and elected to bat, were bowled out for 129 in the 30th over.
Leg-spinner Shafiq Ghafari was the destroyer-in-chief and took six wickets for 15 runs in nine overs and one delivery.
In reply, Afghanistan reached the target of 130 with 150 balls to spare. South Africa’s next match is against Canada in five days’ time.
