The African Farmers Association (Afasa), has welcomed the rain falling in some parts of the country.

While droughts in the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape have been declared provincial disasters, there have been regular downpours in the inland provinces, including Limpopo.

The association’s Limpopo spokesperson Tshianeo Mathidi says farmers are also saving on electricity and fuel they use in pumping water for irrigation purposes.

“We have already been having a very difficult time we are not using much of the fuel and electricity because we are having water it is also an advantage the fact  that for those who are planting not long after the rains they will be able to plant the tomatoes and potatoes that they can plant for now.”
