Law enforcement authorities are deploying additional resources as the protests from Ennerdale and Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg spread to the N12 highway.
Residents have barricaded various roads in the area with burning tyres and rocks in protest of gangsterism, drugs and other criminal activities affecting the community.
Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says: “The protests at James and Provincial road is affecting entry and exit points to Ennerdale. There is also a protest at Lawley entrance and exit to and from Ennerdale.”
“Then there is also a protest on the N12 in an easterly direction where the are big tyres on the freeway which are affecting traffic flow next to Eldorado park.”
He says motorists must exercise caution when travelling in an easternly direction on the N12 going towards Johannesburg.
