A medal at the World Cup is not negotiable – Molokwane

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Netball South Africa (NSA) President Cecilia Molokwane says the senior national team Spar Proteas know what is expected of them at the Netball World Cup in Liverpool next month.

South Africa are in Group C with Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Fiji at the 12-21 July event. Molokwane says even the coaching and management teams know that a medal is not negotiable.

Molokwane adds that she is pleased with how the national netball school week has gone. Provinces competed in all age groups from Monday until Thursday in Gauteng.

The school week will be preceded by the national U19 championship in Cape Town next week.

The president also wants a better relationship between NSA and school sports.

This follows dissatisfaction of the Limpopo MEC for Sport Arts and Culture Thandi Moraka about some former model C schools in her province not wanting to take part in sport.

Molokwane has revealed that the national men’s tournament will be hosted in Limpopo in September this year.

She adds that the federation has also extended an invitation to neighbouring countries and at least nine have shown interest so far. Report by Lethabo Kganyago
