Deputy President David Mabuza has met South Sudanese President, Salva Kiir, in Pretoria in his capacity of Special Envoy to the troubled country.

The two leaders discussed progress made towards the establishment of the Transitional Government of National Unity. This comes after the signature of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan.

In September, the warring parties in South Sudan signed the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.

It paved the way for a roadmap towards the cessation of hostilities, provision of humanitarian assistance, building of institutions of democracy as well as lasting peace and stability.

Last week, Deputy President Mabuza met the Heads of State of Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan.

They are key Member States of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and important regional stakeholders in South Africa’s efforts towards lasting peace and stability in South Sudan.

Wednesday’s meeting discussed developments and progress towards the attainment of lasting peace and stability in South Sudan.
