SA football needs leadership overhaul: Radebe

Reading Time: < 1 minute

South African football legend and former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe says change is needed in the leadership of the sport in order for the national football teams to achieve success again.

Bafana Bafana last qualified for the FIFA World Cup 16 years ago and have only won the Africa Cup of Nations once in 1996.

The team will not compete at this year’s global tournament in Russia next month and has previously missed out on qualification three times.

With Danny Jordaan set to be re-elected to the position of the South African Football Association (SAFA) on Saturday, Radebe says new ideas are needed to take football forward.

Radebe adds that SAFA should relax its election rules or bring in new people so that there will be a smooth transition when elected individuals vacate their positions.
