Deputy Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga has encouraged pupils to explore studies in the logistics sector and to take advantage of opportunities offered by the country’s ocean and coastline of about 2 500 kilometres.

Chikunga was addressing pupils and communities of KwaMbonambi near Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. She says transport careers which have the potential of addressing scarce skills, remain largely untapped in the country.

Chikunga says government also offers bursaries for this sector and assist their post-graduates to find employment.

“One of them that is required by the economy, for instance, we still do not have transport economists; we don’t maritime lawyers; we don’t have aviation doctors. I am just making examples. So, if you choose any of these you will be able to get employment because it’s not the careers that are found in the country right now. They are a scarce skills. That’s why we encourage them to choose them,” she said.
