52% of South Africa’s COVID-19 deaths are between the ages of 50 and 69 years

Persons between the ages of 50 and 69 account for almost 52% of the COVID-19 related deaths in the country.

This comes as the Department of Health announces that the national death toll has surpassed the 1000 mark and stands at 1080 after 82 more deaths were recorded.

According to the daily national figures, 261 people in the age group of 50 to 59 years died of COVID-19 complications accounting for 24.2% of the deaths.

 

The death toll for those in the age group of 60 to 69 stands at 299, accounting for 27.7% of all deaths nationally.

This brings the overall death toll for both age groups to 560.

In terms of percentage, both age groups account for 51.9% of the overall death toll in South Africa.
