National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole made a brief stop in Durban on Friday to inspect how police handled the influx of holiday makers during the festive season.

As holidaymakers continue to enjoy the last few days of the festive season, roads are still busy while beaches remain full.

There is still high police visibility and the police top brass are so far, satisfied. “ Up to thus far we have actually effected quite a number of arrests since we started in October in this province alone we have been able to effect a total number of 46000 arrests.”

KwaZulu-Natal has had a relatively quiet festive season. “We feel great, we feel safe. We never had any problems. The police are everywhere. We haven’t experienced any crime; it had been like this a long time,” says one of the holiday makers.

The police commissioner has visited all nine provinces, and this was his last stop.
