POINT BLANC
Is an ACTUALITY show that deals with issues that include politics, socio-economic developments and highlight intricate governmental policies (peace, governance, economics). This show has an advantage of being a trend setter in terms of discussions held with esteemed leaders who are shaping the new multi-lateral ideological approach of the continent.
With a core focus on continental bodies such as the African Union, Pan African Parliament as well as regional organizations Ecowas, East Africa Commission, Maghreb as well as SADC, this program is strategically placed to highlight not only the problems of the continent but also the solution that are being taken the continental leadership across the African Diaspora.
AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE
AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE - is a CURRENT AFFAIRS programme specifically designed to deal with global Issues set to be covered include, religion, politics, health, finance, agriculture, and matters governance amongst others. By interacting with a range of industry leaders, the shows highlights many issues normally not on the agenda yet are critical towards the existence of people from all walks of life.
Organizations normally interacted with include Non Governmental Organizations, social movements, political movements, Consultative groups, Universities as well as research institutes. Information and guests sourced from such bodies assist in developing and giving the wider television audience a greater perspective on the direction and decisions being made on issues affecting them.
AFRICAN VIEWS
African Views is a current affairs interactive actuality type show, telecasting live every weekday to Africa - (Monday to Friday), between 20h00 and 21h00, Central African Time (CTA), on SABC International, - with repeats at 04h00 and 16h00, the following day.
The program offers a platform where, and whenever possible, at least two views of the same topic are presented for debate between a maximum of four invited all-knowing-on-the-subject guests, - these preferably originating from outside the borders of South Africa and, at the same time, open to discussion from whomever within our viewing audience whishes to call in during the live telecast, or to text and write to a dedicated - africanviews@sabc.co.za, e-mail address, expressing their views or offering their comments and suggestions.
SPORTS REPORT
World Sports Report is a new 30-minute, studio-based, weekly sports news programme that showcases achievements of African and International Sports man and women across the globe. The show wraps up the week on Sport stories making the news, giving the up-to-date coverage of sport from across the African continent and abroad.
The Objective is to showcase sports stories that don’t make the headlines.
We’re looking for content that positively represents our continent and its Sporting Heroes, giving special focus on those countries and individuals that have been previously misrepresented or have received little exposure in the past. Africa has a world of sport to offer and we as Africans have an obligation to put our continent on the World map of Sport.
AFRO SHOWBIZ NEWS
Afro ShowBiz News is a 30-minute, studio-based, weekly entertainment news programme that reflects Africa’s creative soul. The show encapsulates every aspect of African entertainment, giving up-to-date coverage of current trends in African fashion, developments in the media, music and film industries, as well as major upcoming musical, cultural and social events in and around the African continent as well as in the African Diaspora.
The show is insert-driven and strives to be the source of relevant entertainment news stories from within and beyond, yet giving precedence to African Show Biz. With the introduction of Afro ShowBiz on SABC News International more and more African people are coming forward with their achievements and its time we recognized our very own, especially Film and African actors who are making their mark on the international arena".
RENDEZVOUS AFRICA
The programme takes its name from a significant element of the African village, namely the 'meeting place'. In many African villages there has usually been a meeting place of elders where matters affecting citizens are discussed and resolved nearly every afternoon. "Rendezvous Africa" assumes Africa is one great village that is usually affected similarly by various issues, continental or global. Rendezvous Africa is Africa's meeting place to discuss continental and global issues that affect Africans. The programme aims to provoke progressive discussion on various subjects and where possible, help clear false perceptions on various subjects by inviting experts to discuss contentious issues.
180 DEGREES LIVE IN AFRICA
180 Degrees is a news and actuality programme anchored by Aubriel Mpofu and Desiree Chauke, 180 Degrees is information-packed news and current affairs breakfast show with a strong bias towards opinion and decision makers. The show is a mirror through which Africa looks at herself every morning when she wakes up. The show broadcast from 07:00 to 09:00 am weekdays.
180 degrees has over the years followed news as it happens by being on the ground. We have covered major Conferences such as SADC Head of State Summit in Maseru, Lesotho; Ghana 50 anniversary celebration in Accra, Ghana; among others.The programme entails using correspondents from around the world. SABC has four overseas bureaus - New York, Washington, Brussels and London. On the continent we have offices in Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya and Democratic Republic of Congo. Besides their responsibilities of covering news events in their respective areas, these correspondents are also assigned to cover current affairs items.
BUSINESS REVIEW
A daily look at business and commerce on the African continent. The program focuses on issues that affect the continent in an economic sense. These could be as broad as the New Rush for Minerals in Africa; where companies are taking advantage of raging commodity prizes on world markets to start exploring mining options that; to what small business is doing for the economy of Zambia. Will interview the role-players on various issues on doing business on the continent. Stockbrokers explain how to invest in the stock exchanges around Africa; and trade and industry tells their story on what plans they have to develop their economies.
HEALTH ISSUES
A daily update on public healthcare issues, personal health, medical research and the human experience of disease and healing around the African continent. The programme reports objectively on successes and failures in healthcare around the continent, to show African healthcare issues are not all catastrophe management. Show developments in disease and healthcare management to renew and instill faith in Africans in public healthcare managements showcase cutting edge research, development and technology applications to showcase Africa as a continent actively developing sustainable healthcare management solutions. Showcase African governments working in collaboration with NGO, private sector and donor aid providers – to prove governments are actively think-tanking sustainable, best practice solutions
Through first person case studies, reflect on the lived experience of disease and healing, thus creating emotive, personal stories. This personifies health case studies beyond mere statistics and creates viewer empathy and buy-in Presenter: will regularly be joined by healthcare professionals for studio discussions.
AT A GLANCE
This is a weekend Show. On Saturday the Anchor reviews International Stories, which made headlines during the course of the Week. The programme . Re-visitis major South African stories, with potential for serious implications, good or bad to the rest of the continent. A story like a visit to South Africa by . US Head of State or China will be unpacked, same as the ANC policy conference. Guests in a form of credible Journalists or an Analysts will be invited to a Studio to conduct an in-depth analysis of such stories / events.
On Sundays, the focus will be on the upcoming Week’s Events or Stories, with an endeavor to set the International Agenda for the Continent and Diaspora. International events such CHOGM and AU heads of State and Governments will be obvious features on the Week Ahead. Elections across the continent and Diaspora, the US, Britain will also feature prominently, as they influence Policy and Economics of the World. Discussing issues of these nature Experts on such topics, who are NOT necessarily Journalists, will be invited to the Studio.
AFRICAN DIASPORA
African Diaspora is a programme introduced to acknowledge and forge links with the African descendents the majority of whom, through no fault of their own, have been dispersed throughout the world the majority being in the Americas – north central and south. As Africa’s news and current affairs leader, SABC News International explores through ‘African Diaspora’ issues dealing with Africans both on the Continent and the African Diaspora. It is programme is dedicated to the African Agenda consonant with the AU mandate to open communications with Africans in the Diaspora looking towards creation of the African Diaspora as the 6th region of Africa.
WEEKEND LIVE
Is a pacey arts, culture and lifestyle programme that falls under the SABC's News Division, that is broadcast live every Saturday and Sunday mornings between 07h00 and 08h30 (SA Time).
The programme is anchored by Romy Titus and Lebo Thinane, with Sotho Lenkoe on the sports desk and the weather by Paul Monare.
Weekend Live is celebration of South Africa's creative process, through well-research, hard-hitting interviews and packaged reports, utilising the programme's own team of professional journalist as well as the SABC's wide network of journalists across the country's offices - as well as our network of correspondents spread across the globe, from New York's Sherwin Bryce Peas (one of Weekend Live's first hosts) through John Bailey in China to the Kenyan-based Sarah Kimani.
We feature the gamut of the creative industries and aspects of intellectual property rights, from music, through fine art and film, to design and architecture.
In fact, we feature regular slots on some of these aspects of the creative industries, for instance:
- architecture and spaces - a celebration of South African design and architecture, specifically that that is accessible to the public;
- music - as it is one of the country's leading creative industries;
- literature - by featuring new books by SA and African authors;
YOUTH EXPRESSION
Young people have often been seen as the doomed generation who are less interested in what is happening around their world, yet they play an important role in shaping the societies we live in.
Youth Expression is a current affairs program designed to tackle breaking new issues that are directly affecting the young people in the African continent.
It is a program that gives young people a platform for their voices to be heard, it gives them an opportunity to critically deal with issues of national and international importance and to question decisions made by prominent role players in their countries.
