The North West Labour Department has closed seven classrooms at the Madibogo-Batlhaping Primary School in Madibogo near Mafikeng, because they are a health and safety hazard to both educators and learners.
Labour inspectors felt the conditions at the school were not conducive to teaching and learning. This is in spite of the Provincial Education Department being allocated more than R300 million for infrastructural development. Area Project Manager Mvuleni Mbipha says the Department is doing all it can to remedy the situation.
Meanwhile, South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) Provincial secretary, Brian Setswammung says his union is concerned about the lack of learning and teaching at some of the schools in the North West.
