Heavy rains play havoc in different parts of India July 22 2010 , 12:40:00

Heavy rains are playing havoc in different parts of India. Almost half of the Jalpaiguri district in the northern region of India's eastern state of West-Bengal has been flooded.

Heavy rains over the past three days caused rivers to overflow. Vast areas are under floodwater. A bridge on the river of Kalchini block has also been washed away.

Civil Defense volunteers, locals and government officials are busy with rescue operations. Heavy rain has also been reported from across Gujarat. Schools and colleges remain closed. More heavy showers are forecast for the next 72 hours. -Reuters
