Drag race accident victim laid to rest March 13 2010 , 1:15:00
Hip Hop artist Jub Jub

Speakers at the funeral service of Andile Mthombeni - a drag race accident victim - have appealed for maximum sentences for the two murder suspects. They say that the suspects, Molemo Maarohanye popularly known as Jub Jub and his friend Themba Tshabalala, were arrogantly displaying their wealth on a public road.

The suspects knocked and killed four learners earlier this week. The learners were on their way from school. Seventeen-year-old grade eleven learner, Mthombeni was laid to rest at Shigamani Cemetery in the Malamulele area of Limpopo. Three senior managers from the Gauteng Education Department were among the hundreds of mourners who attended his funeral.

This week, Wits University criminal law expert, Boni Meyersfeld said a decision to charge hip hop artist and his co-accused with murder for a fatal car crash could mean a higher sentence and a tougher case to prove. The two initially faced a charge of culpable homicide.

But before appearing in court, the prosecutor took a decision to charge them with murder and attempted murder instead.  It is alleged that the two were under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The case has been postponed in the Protea Magistrate's Court for a bail application. They will be back in court on March 17. The four teenagers who were killed are Phumelelo Masemula, Prince Mahobe, Mlungisi Cwaya and Andile Mthombeni.
