Zuma gets best African President award November 11 2009 , 6:07:00
President Jacob Zuma

President Jacob Zuma has been awarded best African President by Africa Consciousness Media at a gala dinner held in Sandton last night. The Johannesburg based media house aims to recognise Africans who have distinguished themselves in their service to the people.

The organsiation which is chaired by former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda said Zuma's commitment to serving the people and his desire for transparency are the reasons he got the award. Zuma is the first recipient of the best African President award.

Accepting the award, Zuma said he was humbled by the gesture. He said this should serve to remind everyone that people come first.

Zuma added: “These awards should therefore not be about status or prestige, they should be about service and sacrifice”.

The late Mama Africa, Miriam Makeba was also honoured posthumously with the Great daughter of Africa award.

This is very good to know that our president is recognised as a best president. However I am concerned about the high level of unemployment in our country and prime ministers and MP's are spending so much money for their personal gain, forgeting about people who voted for them in the first place. The money that they are spending can create many jobs for unemployed people. It does not make sense that ministers are buying expensive cars e.g R1000000.00 for one person, R3000000.00 to buy houses it is ridiculous. I think the president need to look at this and think about unemployed people and use this money to create jobs for them. Overall well done for getting the award and hopefull it will indeed be a reminder that you need to work more for people who put you in that position. Thanks

This should help open the eyes of those who did not see what we were seeing when we wanted him to be president.

I have a problem with this!!! The man has only been in power for just over 6mths and TALK is cheap. We can all show commitment and desire but can we execute it??? Lets see results before we give awards
