Rautenbach denies being offered bribe by Ngcuka November 19 2009 , 11:04:00
Former Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi

Former Hyundai boss Billy Rautenbach has denied that he was offered a bribe by the former National Director of Public Prosecutions, Bulelani Ngcuka. This in contradiction to convicted drug smuggler Glen Agliotti's own evidence that Rautenbach was the source of this information.

Former National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi used this information in his plea explanation in his South Gauteng High Court corruption trial.

Rautenbach fled to Zimbabwe over commercial crime charges in South Africa. He entered into negotiations with the NPA, who were interested at the time in intelligence gathering regarding mining rights in the DRC.

But, the NPA later closed that door. Rautenbach says he met Agliotti who arranged a meeting with Selebi on the understanding that he could assist with Rautenbach's arrest warrant.

This was to clear the way for him to return to South Africa and re-enter negotiations with the NPA. But, correspondence between Rautenbach and the NPA has been used as proof of improper conduct on the part of Ngcuka. Rautenbach says he does not know where Agliotti got that impression from.
