'Malema attacks opposition to deviate attention' March 10 2010 , 9:58:00
ANC Youth League President Julius Malema

Political analyst Tinyiko Maluleke says the recent attacks on opposition leaders by ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Julius Malema is an attempt to deviate attention from the controversy surrounding him.

Malema says Democratic Alliance leade, Helen Zille is suffering from satanism. He also attacked Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille saying she does not behave like a married woman. Maluleke says Malema is fighting for his political life

"Whether this will work this time around remains to be seen. We know that until now, the Julius Malema strategy has worked but, we must see whether it will continue to work," says Maluleke.

The ANCYL President has been under fire recently for questionable tender deals and his lavish lifestyle. However, he has rejected as malicious, reports that he is 'living it up'.

One of the companies that is said to have bankrolled Malema's lavish lifestyle is SGL Engineering Project. The Youth League leader reportedly held directorship in that company, which received lucrative tenders from the Limpopo government.

Malema claims to have resigned from the company in 2008. He also gave up other business interests. "I instructed my lawyers to process my resignations from all the corporations and companies I was involved in when I was based in Limpopo province".

The Youth League leader also denied that he owned two upmarket homes and two luxury vehicles valued at over R5 million. Malema reiterated that he only has one car and two houses financed by banks. He again disputed reports that he earns R20 000 a month. He says his salary exceeds this but due to contractual obligations with the ANC, he could not disclose that information as it was confidential.
