Mpumalanga women want challenges addressed March 09 2010 , 5:15:00

Mpumalanga women have urged the provincial legislature to deal with the matters that affect them. Issues related to education, health and the lack of jobs that affects many rural women in the province.

The Mpumalanga legislature jointly celebrated Commonwealth Day and International Women's Day which was observed yesterday. Chairperson of the Legislative Committee of Improvement of Quality of Life, Pretty Ngubeni, says the province has made great strides. 

Ngubeni says starting this year they will have everyone who is HIV positive access treatment. At the event, Mpumalanga legislature, Chief Whip Siphosezwe Masangu, said they should be afforded equal opportunities.

During yesterday’s International Women’s Day celebrations, South Africa’s Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga called on local women to remember the women of Haiti who were buried alive during last month's earthquake. She was speaking at the celebrations held in Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape. Motshekga also called on rural women to fight for their rights.
