South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma has called for closer international co-operation among the nations of the world to close the space for international drug syndicates. Zuma was addressing the 10th Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference in Cape Town last night.
Zuma also used the occasion to reaffirm South Africa's support for the International Criminal Court and other international justice agencies. "We will also continue to support all international initiatives aimed at upholding the rule of law, equality, justice as well as the protection of human rights for all citizens of the world," he said.
The meeting, a gathering of heads of prosecution agencies from around the world to share experiences on dealing with new complex and technical crimes. Zuma also said that the lack of capacity to prosecute new complex and technical crimes, speaks to the heart of the hardships faced by the criminal justice system.
Zuma urged the developing world to forge closer ties in ensuring adequate protection of the information communications technology systems. He told prosecutors of a need to have a law that is pro-active in protecting the most vulnerable.
