Seven times Tour de France cycle champion Lance Armstrong will be as competitive as possible in the Cape Argus Pick'nPay Cycle Tour on Sunday. Armstrong is in South Africa to promote healthy living and to raise awareness about the JAG Foundation.
The JAG Foundation is a sports and education foundation which inspires South Africa’s disadvantaged children to build a positive future for themselves, their families and their communities, by encouraging them to participate in various sport-related programmes.
Since arriving in Cape Town, he has been raising funds for the JAG Foundation and giving motivational talks at schools. But, Armstrong also wants to do well in Sunday's race. However, it won't be an easy task. Armstrong and his team mate Daryl Impey of South Africa, will be at a disadvantage, competing against teams consisting of up to six riders.
Armstrong has also shown interest in taking part in the 8-day mountain bike team stage race, the Cape Epic: “It's certainly something that I would like to do in the future. I don't know when, it's simply because I don't know what my schedule is like.”
Armstrong has made quiet an impression at the schools on the Cape Flats. Meanwhile riders and spectators are encouraged to wear yellow at Sunday's race, in support of the Livestrong Global Cancer Campaign, founded by Armstrong.
