Scores of ANC Youth League (ANCYL) members are expected at the Rotary stadium in Mthatha in Eastern Cape today to listen to President Jacob Zuma and ANCYL President, Julius Malema. The ANCYL is hosting this rally to mark its 65 years of existence.
The ANCYL NEC has chosen Eastern Cape as the host province as it produced the founding leaders of the ANCYL such as Nelson Mandela and the late Oliver Tambo.
The rally also aims to thank the young lions and people of the province for voting for the ruling party during the 2009 general elections. The league has bussed thousands of its members from all over the country to the Rotary stadium in Mthatha.
Meanwhile, Malema has made a commitment to donate 50 wheelchairs to Ukhwezi Lolutsha school of the disabled in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. He says the wheelchairs will be delivered towards the end of this year. ANCYL provincial secretary Ayanda Matiti says they have been touched by the plight of the students at this institution.
Matiti said: “We have made a commitment to donate 50 wheelchairs -- 25 of those will be modernized wheelchairs but 25 will also be the basic ones. We have also asked young professionals to do their share”.
