An appeal by the state against bail for former Fidentia boss J. Arthur Brown has been postponed to Friday next week in the Western Cape High Court. This follows a mutual agreement between Brown's legal team and the state in the Antheru Trust matter.
The state wants the court to overturn the R10 000 bail Brown was granted by the Cape Town Magistrate's Court in October 2008. He's charged with fraud involving about R700 000. Brown is also out on bail on several other theft and fraud charges.
Brown faces charges of fraud, theft and money-laundering involving millions of rands in cases related to the Antheru Trust, Fundi and the Transport SETA. His attorney Renen Padayachee said Brown would like this aspect of his life to come to a conclusion as quickly as possible.
Last year curators said they would investigate reports that Brown was still living the high life. But Brown's lawyers insisted that he was broke. However there are reports that he has moved into a plush new home in Hout Bay near Cape Town with his girlfriend.
