Jackson’s public memorial to be held on Tuesday July 03 2009 , 7:00:00

Sherwin Bryce-Pease, Los Angeles

Speculation is rife that a public memorial for the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, will be held on Tuesday next week. These latest reports in US news media have emerged after the family earlier dismissed indications that the memorial was to be held at the late star's Neverland Ranch outside the city today. Jackson died last week at the age of 50.

This comes after a week of misreporting, a lack of information from the family, while fans continue to descend on notable landmarks to pay tribute to the pop icon. Since Michael Jackson's death, Hollywood's Walk of Fame has been overcrowded with fans pausing to pay tribute and also express their frustration at the delays in announcing plans for his funeral. Some fans travelled from as far as the UK for the memorial. The media camped outside the Jackson compound, waiting patiently for something definitive.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Jackson's death is widening, as questions intensify about the drugs he took, the doctors who provided them and the actions of police. Los Angeles police say proper procedures were followed based on the circumstances officers encountered when they were called to the home on June 25.

A doctor was attending to Jackson and stayed with him when he was placed in an ambulance. There was no sign of foul play. Others say police should have assumed it was possible a crime occurred and taken precautions to ensure the scene was not disrupted so evidence wasn't lost or tainted.
