The South African Football Supporters Association has forwarded a request to a number of employer bodies in the country, including the Ministry of Public Service and Administration, requesting them to grant workers 3 hours ex gratia leave to allow them to attend Bafana-Bafana games during the World Cup.
The association believes that if employers decide not to grant the requested ex gratia leave, the euphoria of the World Cup will inevitably affect productivity in the work place.
It is common knowledge that soccer and sports fans in general across the world would do whatever it takes to catch a glimpse of their favourite team in action, that includes faking sickness and or abscond from work just to go and attend a soccer match.
The supporters association says there is a need to facilitate an official and formal agreement between employers and the employees. The FIFA Soccer World Cup kicks off on the 11th of June and runs till July 11.
