Winnie interview did happen: newspaper March 12 2010 , 8:03:00

The London Evening Standard newspaper says it cannot understand Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's denial of an event and conversation that clearly took place.

The newspaper's managing editor, Doug Wills, was responding after Madikizela-Mandela denied ever giving an interview for a story published in the British newspaper.

The interview was highly critical of her former husband, Nelson Mandela.  Wills says the writer of the story, Lady Nadira Naipaul, is a distinguished journalist who visited Madikizela- Mandela at home and spoke to her at length about her experiences.

He says Nadira and her husband, Nobel Literature prizewinner Sir V S Naipaul, were photographed with Madikizela-Mandela, and this picture was printed with the article.

Proud Pretorian - March 13 2010 08:27:39
This is typical of the denial strategy in SA. After something is found to be totally reprehensible, then deny it enough times and the people will believe. Clearly, this interview took place and it is only after several days, when all the press was bad, that Winnie decided it is best to deny. Same with Malema and the 'kill the boers' song. After many days of bad press, he denies it. Now, another ANC spokesperson denies that the drunken ANC spokesperson sang the song! But remember, this is a country of denial. Mbeki denied AIDS and the Zim problem. Zuma denies almost everything including the reports of the number of children he is alleged to have fathered. Tomorrow, I will probably deny having written this....its part of my culture after all.
