Man arrested for damaging Ekurhuleni council offices February 08 2010 , 8:56:00

A 65-year-old man was arrested today after he became angry at council officials and threw their computers around, said Ekurhuleni metro police. Inspector Mveli Nhlapo said the man went to the city council to complain about excessive electricity bills for two properties he owned in the Baxa section of Tembisa. "He became angry and damaged computers of the council by pulling out the plugs and throwing them around," said Nhlapo. "He fought and said he wanted his issue to be attended to."

Security officials tried to restrain him, but he continued his fight until metro police arrested him. The man would face a charge of malicious damage to property, Nhlapo said. He said that the man was being asked to pay R12 000 for the electricity used at his homes by tenants. Nhlapo advised residents not to cause havoc at council offices where people were employed to serve them. - Sapa
