Two men in court after deadly Soweto car crash March 10 2010 , 6:08:00

The two men accused of killing four teenage boys in Soweto on Monday are due to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court today. They face charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving. The two were allegedly racing their cars when they collided and hit a group of boys on their way home from school.

Four of the boys were killed instantly. They were grade 12 pupils aged between 17 and 19. Two other boys were critically injured. The two accused were supposed to appear yesterday however the hearing was moved to today as police wanted to finalise their evidence.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has warned that those involved in illegal drag-racing in townships will face the full might of the law. She was speaking during her visit to the victims families in Protea North.

The Premier's spokesperson, Dumisani Zulu says, "Those involved in this situation are going to face the wrath of the law. The government of Gauteng is not going to tolerate a situation where our streets that are supposed to be used with respect by our own community members are turned into race courses." He added that people who want to race must go to designated areas where racing is allowed.

I applaude the prosecutor for his bravery to charge the soweto racers with murder. They should also have their drivers licences withdrawn. It's time that traffic offenders like these are charged with murder, this will send a clear message to those who still drink, drive & kill innocent law abiding road users.Time for mickey mouse prosecution is long overdue.Jail should be their next home for many years to come."ke magotlo, ba utlwa ka letlalo"GAMORS!!!

i personally feel this should i clear messsage to all illegal drag racers. the pain of the families, community in anger and the two racers lives to end in jail: was it worth it. its time the youth woke up. especially public figures like our celebrities. last year two young pretoria boys died in a mini cooper while racing, one being a friend. a situation that could have easily been avoided, we are grown and should act that way, if not endanger your own life, not innocent by standers!

They should face what is coming to them (JUSTICE should be served),A car cant BE A FRIEND to no one.

The culpable homicide charge for these racers should be changed to MURDER like in the case of a Pretoria taxi driver who crushed a school girl riding her scooter to school.Drad racing in the twnship belittle road safety efforts. These boys must be punished.Fame has got to their heads.Sentiments by the Gauteng Premier shouldn't be only a lip service or a political statement. She MUST see to it that the full might of the law becomes operational.
