Zuma's speech will set tone for tripartite summit

ANC president, Jacob Zuma

The Tripartite Alliance want Zuma to assure them of their future survival

May 09, 2008, 12:30

ANC President Jacob Zuma is expected to open the Tripartite Alliance Summit today with a political overview report. The Congress of SA Trade Unions’ (Cosatu) push for greater representation on the ANC's National Executive Committee, as well as economic and labour market policies will dominate talks at the three-day meeting taking place in Kempton Park.

Meanwhile, it's expected the political overview report will emphasise a need for the alliance to continue. Zuma is expected to call for more unity in the alliance.

The SA Communist Party (SACP) general-secretary will present his party’s position in terms of the party’s expectations, which will include more say as to how the alliance is managed and on issues of government -a position that will likely be backed by Cosatu. The summit ends on Sunday.
