The ANC in the Northern Cape has suspended 26 of its members, including the speaker of the Sol Plaatje municipality and several councillors. It has also admitted to internal problems, but says this will pose no threat to its provincial conference in June this year.
Three weeks ago the Sol Plaatjie Mayor, Patrick Lenyibi, along with two councillors were also served with suspension letters.
Members say they are against the current provincial chairperson, John Block, and that is why they were suspended.
The party says even though they have problems and conflicts it is nothing that cannot be solved. The suspensions are subjected to the approval of the National Working Committee's disciplinary committee.
Political analyst, André Duvenhage, says the success of the ANC in the coming election will depend on their ability to manage conflict within its own structures.
