Stop locking out ANC elders: MKMVA

May 03, 2008, 13:30

The Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) warned against elements within the ANC leadership who continue to lock out other elderly members because of personal differences.

Speaking at the MKMVA's third provincial general council in the North West, MKMVA chairperson Kebby Maphatsoe says acts of pushing out some members of the party would definitely lead to a situation currently being experienced in other countries, including Zimbabwe.

"If there are people who are bitter about the ANC, it’s our duty to go and educate them politically but if you can't educate our own comrades within the ANC, we purge them, we push them further away from the ANC and they will regroup outside ... We must defend the gains of this revolution, we must defend our people, we can't suppress our people. It’s very important that we harmonise the relationship between the ANC and the MKMVA," Maphatsoe said.
