DA Chief Whip Ian Davidson says his party will welcome ANC Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe's deployment to government, if he replaces an under performing minister.
He says there is more than one minister that Motlanthe could replace. The ANC's National Executive Committee (NEC) has decided to deploy Motlanthe to government to ensure a smooth transition should the party win the 2009 elections.
Davidson says there is no justification to replace the deputy president but he mentioned three of many ministers he thinks can be replaced by Motlanthe.
He says as long as Motlanthe's appointment to cabinet will not require a constitutional amendment or become a minister without portfolio, the DA will support it.
Meanwhile Independent Democrats (ID) leader Patricia De Lille says ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe's deployment to cabinet will add value to government. De Lille was reacting to the ANC National Executive Committee's decision to deploy Motlanthe to government. The ANC's decision is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition in preparation for the next cabinet should the ANC win the elections.
