Delegates at the provincial conference of the ANC Youth League in Limpopo have re-elected Julius Malema as the secretary. About 700 delegates voted anonymously for the top five positions today at the conference being held at Tivumbeni Multi-purpose Centre outside Tzaneen.
Malema is also reportedly among candidates earmarked to contest the presidency of the League, which holds its national conference in Bloemfontein next month.
Delegates have also elected Lehlogonolo Masoga to become the chairperson and Luruli Muvhango will be his deputy. The deputy secretary is Goodman Mtileni while Solly Chego will be the treasurer.
Results for additional members of the ANCYL in Limpopo and the conference resolutions on issues being deliberated such as HIV-Aids and youth development will be released tomorrow.
ANCYL members denied access to congress
Meanwhile, more than 50 ANC Youth League members from the OR Tambo region of the Eastern Cape have been denied access to a regional congress being held at the OR Tambo District Municipal chambers ahead of the provincial and national Youth League congress.
The league's members belonging to seven sub-regions claim that they are voting delegates and should attend the congress. They say they have been denied access because they supported President Thabo Mbeki at the ANC's policy conference which was held in Limpopo in Polokwane.
The league's spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, says the members being denied access are those who are currently not in good standing with the league. Kodwa says the congress is a private meeting of an organisation that cannot be attended by members who are not disciplined.
