The Mother of President Thabo Mbeki -Epainette -has urged more South Africans to write their own history.

She was speaking during the launch of her book in Johannesburg today, and also appealed to the youth to begin writing South Africa's history. Her son, President Mbeki called on South Africans to emulate the lives of the older generation.

The Life and Times of Epainette Nomaka Mbeki The Book - A humble journey in her footprints takes the reader into the 92 years of Epainette's life.

Launched on International Women's Day, the authors pay tribute to a woman who served her community during the difficult apartheid years - a role she continues to play.

An active member of the Liberation Movement, Epainette, wife of Govan Mbeki, was the second black woman to join the Communist Party of South Africa in 1937.
