ANC President Jacob Zuma says Affirmative Action was not meant to punish white people because of their colour. He was speaking at a dinner hosted by trade union Solidarity in Pretoria last night. Zuma says the policy was aimed at redressing the imbalances of the past.
Zuma says he is confident that at some point the issue of Affirmative Action will wither away as the country goes through its transformation phases. Zuma said young Afrikaners will not be made to suffer for the wrongs of the past.
No interference in sport
Zuma says there should not be any political interference in sport. There has been much controversy around political interference in South African sport, especially rugby. Zuma says politicians should only intervene when things are not going well.
