Mbeki missed the ANC's first commitee meeting
|
January 28, 2008, 11:15
President Thabo Mbeki is expected to attend the ANC's National Working Committee for the first time today since it was instituted following the Polokwane conference. The 28-member committee oversees the day-to-day running of the ANC.
Its members include the party's top six officials and its two former presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki as ex-officios as well as the 20 directly elected members.
Mbeki missed the party's first committee meeting which elected the new members. He also did not attend Jacob Zuma's inaugural policy address in Atteredgeville outside Pretoria earlier this month.
However, Mbeki attended the first NEC lekgotla where he led his ministers to discuss reports on the government's progress in improving the living standards of all South Africans. Mbeki is expected to brief the committee about the government's plans to implement the Polokwane resolutions.
